ÁGUA VIVA Acrylic, pen, pencil, and drafting tape on paper, 8 x 10 inches

This piece is an ode to my favorite author, Clarice Lispector. The first layer of this piece is a concentric recitation of her novel, Água Viva. The novel, translated as Stream of Life, alludes to its stream of consciousness style of writing and its amorphous content. Each paragraph is set in the present moment - the precise present moment of writing - so no two paragraphs directly relate to each other. With this piece, I wanted to give form to the novel while still revering the Present. I painted two cranes swooping in on each other - one representing Past, one representing Future. The space held between foot and beak is the Present suspended, where all potential lies in wait.
